If you’re expecting a traditional bakery experience forget about it. This is a 2nd floor room that has a place to order baked goods. Come here early or order ahead for best selection. Signature Croissants are wonderful !! The 5 stars are for this croissant alone! They were out of plain(aka “wild”) sourdough so we tried the cranberry pecan and it was loaded with each and very delicious.

What can I say about this bakery?! The online ordering was super easy. I had the flexibility to try for a date that had everything available that I wanted. The goodies were incredible. Voted BEST BAKERY IN AMERICA and well deserved. We had the croissants, the chocolate croissants, and the morning buns. I got there a little early and went upstairs instead of calling for curbside. I’m so glad I did. The vibe of the space is perfectly SD chill and the live music on Saturday morning was the icing on the….cinnamon sugar on the morning bun. I cannot wait to get back!

Visited for a Saturday breakfast right about the time they opened and there was a line to place an order. The mood is really nice, it's quite the character. There was live music which was perfect for that mood. The croissant was good, it was a bit more salty to my liking but the texture and moisture inside were on point. The prices are really high for what they are IMO. I don't know if these prices are normal for California but they are super high for someone coming from France. 6$ for regular croissants and 10 for almond croissants is steep.

I have been fortunate enough to try their baked goods a couple of times and me, my family, my friends and my coworkers are all amazed at how incredible everything is. The wild sourdough is good but the croissants are out of this world. On top of that my experiences with the IZOLA team have been incredible as well. Nothing but positive experiences from me and everyone I know. One time the owner personally brought our order out to the car. Love the vibe/genuine love and care that exudes from everything I’ve seen and interacted with from IZOLA.

was in San Diego with my husband for a business trip. I caught y'all a couple of days after that Yelp article naming you best bakery in the country. Needless to say, you were my very first stop on the trip. I enjoyed every last crumb of my order! I'm so excited to see how your business exploded and wish I lived closer so I could enjoy another one of the delicious pastries. Here in Birmingham, AL, our comparable bakery is Continental Bakery. Enjoy your success and expansion. If you ever branch out to other cities, I sincerely hope you give Birmingham a chance. We have a wonderful foodie community here. Izola would be a welcome addition to our restaurant community.

The only words to describe our experience at Izola are unforgettable and worth the wait! The owners truly have something special in their recipe for their bakery items. Their croissants are like no others I’ve tasted, and I’ve been to many places around the world and have tried many croissants. Trust me when I tell you that you HAVE to try this amazing bakery. But be warned, you will want to go back for more!

Uh okay. So I can see why people are willing to wait in line, OR are super smart and do pre-orders! I can't remember the last time I ate a pastry and went. "Wow." -- with every bite!

I just went today, Friday @ 8:45am and there was a line out the door (probably the morning rush because it died down by 9:15am). They unfortunately only had the "Signature Croissant" available, but luckily that's all I wanted to try! I couldn't stay inside to enjoy it, but the ambiance was great. Wide windows with lots of light, the tables made me feel like I was in Paris.

It was still warm by the time I got home. Each part of that croissant was magical, either by texture or taste. The outside was a perfectly buttery crispy bite, and the inside was like biting into a CLOUD. It almost felt wrong to disturb its structure!

Now I must come back and try the other flavors! Excuse me while I try to eat whatever crumbs are left on my plate... :)

Wow! One of the best butter croissants I’ve ever had in my life! So crunchy, flaky and moist all at the same time. More pricey than any other croissant I had before. But it was worth the taste!

Was allowed to bring my dog inside to give my order. Super friendly staff.

Last but not least, it is quite a hidden and unusual spot. But signs will guide you to the bakery.

Tip: Make sure to sign up for their loyalty program for nice rewards!

I’m going to whisper throughout this review. First, because IZOLA feels like it should be kept a secret, and second because whispering is kind of my thing. You just don’t know it because you’re reading my review and not hearing my voice.

Atmosphere
The only way you could tell where IZOLA is would be by seeing the small, unassuming sign out front or by finding it on Google Maps. The space is on the second floor and it’s big and open. Everything is baked in the loft above the main area.

Service
The staff here know their stuff. The guy at the front told me that it takes 3 days to make their croissants and they have 96 layers.

Food
I ordered the Tahitian Vanilla Knot and the chocolate croissant. Both were warm and just sweet enough. The knot was one of the best baked goods I’ve had in my life and the croissant was the best I’ve ever had. I have been to France. Next time, I want to get the sourdough bread.

Price
Not outrageous. Worth it.

Recommend?
Without a doubt. I’ll be returning.

Izola has to be the best place for croissants and pastries in San Diego. I would suggest ordering your items ahead as they do sell out of items. If you happen to like live music try a Saturday or Sunday. Local artists are performing with that perfect coffee house vibe. Everything we had was amazing. The plain (if you can call it that) croissant has 96 layers of butter and pastry. It’s really big enough for two. We love the Tahitian vanilla knots, the Moroccan Olive chocolate croissant- what a unique and pleasant surprise. Our son loves chocolate croissants and he thinks this is his favorite along with Tartine in San Francisco. The wild sourdough is fresh and I’m looking forward to trying dog the other flavors some time soon! Jeffrey is a very kind and caring chef/owner/host. He really cares for his customers experience and was very attentively checking on patrons ensuring their in person experience is meeting yours and his expectations. I’ve already been back once and look forward to my next visit.
