Umami was phenomenal! We found this little gem when walking down walnut street and were not disappointed! Great atmosphere, service, and food!! I will definitely be coming back again! Their happy hour is a must do when in Philly! Piya was a top notch bartender and server! You can’t go wrong here!

Stopped in for lunch and was super impressed. Easy to pass by on the street, so don't miss it! Sat at the sushi bar (great decision) and had a fantastic lunch of rolls and the scallop appetizer. The sushi chef was great at recommending options. Reasonably priced for the quality of sushi provided. I will definitely be back!

This was the best Nigiri I’ve ever had in my life. I’m salivating just thinking about it. They put an incredible amount of care into each ingredient. They have passion, love, good booze and great potential. I BEG you to try this restaurant, you will be more than satisfied! It was truly unforgettable.

Tried umami my first time yesterday and loved everything about it. The staff were very welcoming and the food was amazing. We got seated in front of chef Mike and chef Yonten who made the experience much more memorable. You could tell they were very experienced and talented in their craft.
I highly recommend this place and will be visiting as often as i can

This place is great. It’s located in the basement so when you walk in make sure to go down.
Their hosting was fantastic and their food simply spectacular. The Umami roll was the highlight, but their New York Steak was perfect too.

We were warmly welcomed as soon as we entered! You need to walk to the basement level to enter the restaurant. The restaurant has very cozy vibes with brick walls and fish lanterns. We had a delicious scallop appetizer, maki rolls, and green tea mochi ice cream with excellent service from our waitress Nana. Highly recommend visiting!!

This is the first review I’ve ever left on Google and it is so so deserved for this restaurant. The food was incredible—some of the best food I’ve ever had in Philly. Service was great—the staff is truly proud of the work they are doing and the food they are serving. The restaurant is beautiful and certainly will be packed very soon. The ribeye steak was unbelievable and the New York was also very good. All of the sushi was fresh and perfectly seasoned. Between the dining experience and truly delicious food I could not recommend this restaurant more. I am very excited to go back and will definitely be going for lunch likely this week.

Go grab a seat at the sushi counter before everyone finds this new hidden treat in Philly. Best seat in the house is with Mike who will share about ingredients, tastes as he’s working his magic.

We heard about this restaurant through an Instagram post. The food looked very tasty and we have to say it exceeded our expectations. We had the honor of coming during their soft opening. Whether or not they were just buttering us up, they have won our hearts and our stomachs. We sat at the sushi bar and Chef Mike made our dinner experience very special. It was "ichi-go ichi-e." This is a Japanese 4 character idiom that describes a cultural concept of treasuring the unrepeatable nature of a moment.
Chef Mike is very personable and humble. He does not give himself enough credit, but we know he will only create more exciting culinary experiences due to his passion, talent and drive to continue to learn and innovate. We let chef Mike take the lead and it was truly an amazing sushi/sashimi/nigiri journey. The food Chef Mike creates are firmly rooted in traditional Japanese styles but not tied down to the tried and true. This allows him to create plates with both the excellent taste we have come to expect from true quality sushi and he goes further to add a unique, fresh and entirely original flavor.
The Koji aged steak was very unique and makes it stand our from other steak house flavors in the city (and we do like a good steak). The head kitchen chef carves the steak for you at table side. Worth the experience.
The staff is very attentive. Peter the manager was very kind and really knows how to make you feel welcomed and at home.
We hope that as the restaurant gets busier (which we know it will) that they will somehow be able to keep the sushi bar experience personable and wonderful. We wish the restaurant only the best and we will be back again.

This restaurant is a hidden gem of Philly! The restaurant is in a basement and the entrance is so unassuming. If my husband didn’t see the signs outside the door, we would never find it.
The food is absolutely delicious. We have both vegetarian temaki and those with fish, all of them taste amazing. The pork bun and ribeye buns are equally amazing!
