McDonald's breakfast is tastier. Stay away.

What an exquisite breakfast experience. I took a local lawyer here, born and raised in NYC, who was supremely impressed. Of course it is top dollar. You are eating Michelin star quality food, served impeccably and in a space that is simply sumptuous in every respect. John and his staff could not have been more welcoming. It I could give it 10 stars I would.

My husband, son and I stayed at Lotte Hotel earlier this month, just for spring break. The dining is expensive. I don’t mind, however the service is appalling. During our week, we are ate at Villard multiple times. My last straw was the morning we were leaving. As a party of 3, they didn’t remove our extra dining plates and give us water after 20 minutes. When this white waiter initially came to my table, he was shaking. I’m a black woman, white husband, white passing child. We all were in a great mood, but his energy was terrible. He took forever to come to our table to take our order, while I’m watching the same server go back to other tables multiple times. I complained to the manager, of course what your average white person does is minimize the experience of the black person no matter what social status, and make excuses for the white server.
Another evening, I ordered a cocktail, waiter place it on the table and some spilled they didn’t clean it, I had to. Also, that same evening I ordered chicken with a salad on top. The sides and dressing was missing. It was sent back. They should have told me before I ordered the ingredients were missing. Still came back, ingredients were missing. I hate to make things race based, but I do feel like it’s partial. Also, extremely more management and wait staff seem miserable. The food can be good when it’s not burnt, and ingredients aren’t missing, but this was no where near 5 star service. I would never go back, nor recommend. Attitude and good service is everything. For the price, this restaurant is classless.

Despite great service, pretty poor breakfast: space is so dark in the mornings that you can’t read a newspaper, food is mediocre (burnt bacon) and prices are as high as I’ve seen anywhere, ie budget 50 dollars for eggs and bacon.

Had breakfast at Villard and for $240 for 4 people, I expected much better service. First off, when we arrived at the front door, there were at least 3 doormen out front and none of them bothered to step up and assist us with our luggage or open the door. They stood there hands folded and continued to converse amongst themselves. We sat down in the restaurant and asked for an assortment of coffee and various juices. The juices came at varying times, and when the coffee arrived, one of them was set in front of the wrong guest. We made a comment, to which the server said "give me a second I only have 2 hands". Wow, how rude! The server could have used a tray or made 2 trips if he couldn't hold all the drinks. The food was ok but nothing to brag about. My avocado toast was the least amount of avocado I've ever seen. It's basically a thin avocado spread.
Not sure we would be back for the price point, service, and old school ambiance combination. There are plenty of newer hip breakfast spots with much better and more personalized service!

Best thing about this place is the setting and the ambience. Beautiful interior. The food is good although nothing too special. Service is mediocre. Had to constantly remind waiter to bring water. Specifically asked for a change to order that was not honoured. Overall, average experience.

Wow, if you feel so sorry for the kitchen and waitstaff, that you would rather have stayed home or have gone back to the kitchen yourself, and made your own breakfast and served yourself then go thru what was presented to you...
I'm pretty speechless about about thus whole experience, I must recommend you skip it! I will say the building, the Villard house is in believable and a must see! So maybe if you happen to be at mass at St Patrick's or just happen to be on the late Million Dollar Row, pop your head in the now Lotte Hotel. It was the Gilded Era when the Villard House mansion was built, and it stunning, a real jewel. Extremely, interesting architectural history in NYC, so please visit it if that's your bag!
Too bad that they can't have a cooler restaurant at the Lotte Hotel. It was my 60th Birthday breakfast and we were at mass at St Peters, and we hit the Villard Room and was ian excusable bust! Oh, and between 4 of us it was $150 billion, that included splitting one of the breakfasts, plus we all only had one cappuccino each.
Do a split? Yikes the wait staff did not bring another plate! We asked for another plate, and they literally brought it, and handed it off to another person sitting at the table, tacky right?
Then everything was cold, stale, bland, boring and lacking presentation. Don't be fooled by their groovey website!
My daughter didn't eat her stale brioche with turned avacodo on it for $25, now do you think the waiter might have asked any of us if every thing was going ok? No, and he even tacked on his own 15% gratuity. This was probably the worst experience for breakfast I've personally ever had in one of the worlds most sensational rooms!
We went to the Neue Gallery for brunch the day before, and it was an hour wait! Why, because it was fabulous, check the Neue Gallery out!!!

Amazing dining experience in a beautiful and elegant restaurant located in the Heart of Manhattan! You can enjoy not only the great view of St. Patrick Cathedral while at the Villard restaurant but also try some of the best dishes that French cuisine has to offer. I personally recommend La Quercia Prosciutto Plate or Tuna & Watermelon Tartare. Cheers to making me and my family feel very special while dining there!!!

The fried chicken was cooked well, but slightly too heavy and seasonless. The salmon and lentils were very good. French fries were undercooked. Profiteroles and Chocolate Hazelnut Bar were the highlights.

The restaurant itself was gorgeous to look at, mixing the original style and sophistication of the Palace Hotel with fresh and modern design. If it weren't for the chaotic staff, poor service, and tourist-y clientele, this would have been a lovely evening.

The waiters lacked any formal training to serve in an establishment like that. There often seemed to be more waiters, hostesses, managers scurrying around than diners, one wondered why it took twenty minutes to flag the waiter down so we could order or witness why a neighboring table found it impossible to request their check. Not to mention the lady who was patiently waiting for coatcheck to find her coat. It almost seemed chaotic the action that was happening behind our seats.

Sitting in the bar dining room is not advisable as well with the entrance to the lobby directly in the center of it. We had every tourist and staff member whirling by us as we dined on our $30 dollar pieces of salmon. Are waiters supposed to run when performing their tasks at a restaurant? And all the nervous and tense looks on the staff's faces did not add up to a pleasant dining experience. Apparently what we learned was that they had just opened up their fine dining, 5 and 7 course tasting dining rooms, hence the overwhelmed and unprepared staff. Deal with it.

All in all, it's fair, alright, okay. The Palace is going to have a convenient and good restaurant for their guests. But I could never consider this a true New York fine restaurant. Just like the hotel's guests, this restaurant will just be a tourist.

best restaurant in new york. the flavors and creativity are off the charts. tuna was as i recalled it from georgetown. lobster is on another level. also for a change, try the villard burger. i was hesitant to order it on my second visit. this is a burger that even the most jaded new yorker will agree has a place in the city echelon. personally, the champagne selection will keep me going back long after i've tried everything on the menu. interesting to watch the reviews as the holidays draw near.
