Every dish was good, but nothing really stood out to me. I never had a “wow” moment. If I were to be more specific, I would say that the dishes didn’t have a lot of complexity in the flavors that we usually expect from a Michelin star tasting menu.

For the amuse-bouche, the only nitpick I have is the waffle crisp under the wagyu tartare was a little soggy which took away from the mouth feel of the dish.
The first course, the caviar uni dish, was very tasty, but it felt a little heavy due to the creamy mashed potatoes and sushi rice underneath the already rich and creamy uni. I wish there was a little acidity to the dish to help break up the richness.
The hamo (eel?) dish was alright, but I was hoping for a brighter dish after the uni dish.
The third course was hata sashimi which was very good. But then the fourth course, the seared tuna dish, was just a tad bit fishy. They had mustard on top that helped a little to mask it, but it still came through.
The fifth course, the king crab and morel mushroom, was very tasty, but again lacked any other flavor profile than umami and salty. The celery root that was on top helped but didn’t feel like enough for the whole course.
The best course and our personal favorite was the abalone and orzo rice dish. It was rich and savory, an excellent main course kind of dish.
The eighth course, the beltfish dish, was supposed to be charred over charcoal, and the fish was cooked incredibly well…but I didn’t smell much of that smokey flavor for being cooked over coal.
The final savory course, the wagyu dish, was also good, but the sauce made it taste like Korean bulgogi to me instead of a Japanese wagyu dish.
The desserts were refreshing and not too sweet. No complaints. Also, the matcha tea they make in front of you was very very delicious.
I had really high hopes for this place since so many of my friends raved about the restaurant, but I left a little disappointed. I see that the menu changes from time to time so maybe we tried a slightly different menu than them. I do want to say that I’m being super critical. To reiterate, the food was very good. I think that I was just expecting a little something more.

I made a reservation for a birthday celebration and understood their cancellation policy was that all reservations were final sales and not refundable. However, I tested positive for COVID-19 on the date of my reservation which was very much unwanted and unfortunate. I emailed the restaurant immediately with a copy of the certified test result from the lab. However, the restaurant was extremely not empathetic and told me "they understood the situation but their business would not be able to survive if everyone who gets COVID cancels with a full refund." This is such unprofessional customer service given the circumstances. I replied with a request to receive a 50% of refund and to reschedule the reservation because I understood where the restaurant was coming from but I did not get a response. I was so disappointed and had to contact American Express to file a dispute. As an upscale restaurant, you need to think about ways to survive and make money, but most importantly be empathetic to your customers and make decisions on a case-by-case basis. Will not return to dine here.

A bit of Japanese and French fusion, the concept is great but it’s more French than Japanese. For example the olive flavor overshadowed the avocado in the appetizer. The sashimi doesn’t taste fresh. The uni caviar dish is a good combo but the bottom is too creamy. Some lacks umami flavor. The celery root in king crab soup is interesting. The Wagyu rice is a bit disappointing though, the rice is not well cooked, lacking some flavor.
The desserts are too sweet, matcha tea quality is mediocre.

This was a an experience at a different level than most other fine dining experiences I've had. I would award Tsukimi 5 starts for the presentation of the courses alone, as well as for the flavor, and yet for most courses both were excellent and above what I've seen before. Every course that came out from the kitchen was an exciting surprise and I would say even fun to eat. I got to try the early Winter menu, and I can't wait to see what the chef and team come up with next.

In addition to the excellent food and its presentation the service was outstanding, and the ambience and comfort at the table were great. They go to large extent to ensure an experience you want to live and talk about.

This was an incredible experience well worth the price. An incredible variety in the cuisine that left me more than sated after the 12 course prix fixe experience. The service was incredibly informative, courteous and attentive. Went here for a birthday dinner and am excited to come back again in the future!

Fantastic meal here, with great service. Food is well presented and speaks for itself in its simple preparation, yet truly flavorful. Would definitely recommend without hesitation. Very high quality Japanese kaiseki cuisine, without being overly pretentious. Will be back

Tsukimi is an elegant 14-seat kaiseki restaurant by the team behind Sakamai and Bar Moga that just opened last year at the old Dieci location in East Village. It’s been on my bucket list for a long time and while I still haven’t dined in and normally don’t write reviews if I’ve only done takeout or delivery, I recently had a great experience doing takeout at Tsukimi so I wanted to write a review for them to encourage people to support them at a time when the restaurant industry is going through a lot of difficulties.

Unlike many restaurants that have started offering outdoor dining Tsukimi has not reopened for outdoor dining at this time, but they are offering their four course Tsukimi At Home dinner menu and Temari Sushi so that you can enjoy Executive Chef Takanori Akiyama’s dishes in the comfort of your home. For the month of August the tasting menu comes with Japanese tea (Kagoshima Prefecture’s Sakuma Sencha) from Kettl Tea and wagashi (Japanese confectionary) with red bean, coffee, cream cheese and basil. Although we only got the tasting menu and sushi this time they also offer rice bowls with uni and wagyu as well as sake. The staff here is really nice and everything is delicious. I can’t wait for them to reopen for indoor dining!

Tiny jewel of a space offering the spirit of kaiseki served by attentive, friendly, and well-informed folks, in an unusual way: Two rows of diners face each other, and the service is from the central aisle. With sharp eyes one can catch glimpses of the preparation in the kitchen.

Let me start off with how proper this place were, the traditions, the manners and the services were absolutely amazing. My friend and I were blown away with the food and the elegance of the service. We both agreed that this was one of the best experiences we had and the food was just as amazing as it sounded. We absolutely recommend to try this place out and feel it for yourself, also with the wine/sake hybrid pairing. Out of the many we tried, this is the one of the few we WANT to REVISIT again in the near future.

Thank you everyone for the great experience you have given us. We absolutely appreciate you all that night!
