Food was mediocre at best, and the service was terrible. Our waitress didn't come over to our table ONCE to check on us - no water refills even once, let alone coffee refills. Every table surrounding us got check-ins and refills, the place was definitely not super busy or full, and there was more than one waitress working, so I don't understand. At least the prices were relatively reasonable for the area?

What a gem! Service was great, Black Bean Burger was phenomenal. Fries are supper yummy and hand cut. Another bonus? It’s a scratch kitchen. I’ll definitely be back!

Certainly one of the most well planned contemporary pubs along 1st Ave. Nice spot to grab a drink or bite. Hip but unassuming (mostly) crowd. Great craft beer selection. Prices are average and it's a little too clean to call it a dive but it's got that gritty feel. Outlet strips for charging under the bar are a really smart touch

Great service, decent coffee, mediocre food. Fries were soggy, breakfast burrito tasted sweet, burger was quite bland. Restroom has seen better days.
Have to revise my rating. Waiter asked how we want the burger cooked and offered medium. The patty was not hand made so it had to be fully cooked. After some bad stomach ache the food did not stay in my body for long.

Wonderful bartender, quick and attentive. Lunch was presented well and quickly. The flavor was bland, over breaded fish and chips and even though my partner had gotten the fish my fries tasted like oily fish, I can only assume they were fried together. Chicken dish so very very dry. Poor food quality, but attentive service.

I had The Spotted Dog which is supposed to be the highlight on the menu, failed. The beef on top tasted so sweet I could barely eat it. My husband had The House Burger, it was ok, nothing special.

I love this bar. I've been going there for lunch with my coworker once a week for the last couple of months. The service is always great...the food is always reliable, and it's close to work.

I absolutely loved my visit to this restaurant. The food was so good the service was great. Furthermore, the aesthetic for the restaurant was absolutely gorgeous. I definitely will be returning there soon. PS you should definitely try the buffalo grilled burger, and ask for a side of fresh avocado and put it in your burger. It taste absolutely great.

Really great atmosphere that gets quite busy for after work happy hours! The bartenders are really great and their charm and efficiency are enough to keep you coming back. Always accommodating. Great pub fare and also great signature cocktails.

Great food! Great service! Would recommend to anyone in NYC. We were refused service at another restaurant because we had a stroller and kids. The spotted dog welcomed us in, and treated us extremely well. Very happy with my experience here.

The chickpea sandwich was good and the beets we're good as well. Others ordered the chicken out pie and fish and chips and said they're delicious as well. Everything seemed clean and sanitary. The service was nice. We had a large group and they accommodated is no problem.

Poor choice of craft beers ...food so-so and definitely is overpriced for the quality offered.
hamburger was boring AF
meatballs were undercooked/almost raw centers but I rather enjoined it..still not.worth $12....maybe $8
suggestions: get good craft beers... just look across the street Milk-and-hops or UNTAPPD app
Reduce sides for $7 to $5
Reduced prices with $3-4 or increase.QUALITY to match prices
....or go BANKRUPT
P.S. Forgot to mentioned that the cloth napkins were smelling of burnt cooking oil... definitely needing more detergent and/or bleach

A planned group outing at a nearby pub last Saturday night proved to be ill-conceived, so we peeked in through the window of The Spotted Dog and decided it looked hopeful and we went for it. Our group of a dozen or so men of a 'certain age' needed a place to eat and drink, although not necessarily in that order. As we assembled at the bar and the group reached critical mass, we quickly lost all apprehension and realized the stars had aligned for us that night. We were treated extremely well at the bar, this notwithstanding the fact that there were two other large gatherings there that night vying for the staff's attention. Lest I forget, there was also what I assume was the usual Saturday crowd. The SD team was genuinely pleasant, friendly and professional and they were very aware of our presence the entire time. When we inquired about the possibility of getting a table for our large group, there was the immediate nodding of heads and a call to action that resulted in us being sat in what seemed like two minutes. Happy to say that the attention and stellar service only continued, as our orders were taken as soon as we were ready, we were served quickly and - not to be overlooked - the food was quite good. There isn't one thing I could point to that the team didn't do well. I'm actually glad the other location didn't quite work out for us or we wouldn't have discovered this gem. This writer plans to visit again.

LOVED it! My husband and I eat low carb, and often when we try new places we wind up having awkward conversations as we are never sure how well received our requests will be, which is fair, not all places are able to accommodate substitutions. This place, however, made it easy! The gentleman who came from behind from the bar to help us was very gracious about it, and encouraged us to make sure we got exactly what we wanted. We got wings with the best ranch I've ever had, seriously, I do not even understand how it was so good, burgers without buns and asparagus. It was perfect.

I'm a native New Yorker who's been an Upper East Side resident since 1987. And I know restaurants.
I was worried when I noticed that the Honky Tonk Tavern (which was there before The Spotted Dog appeared) was being taken away. I'd loved the place and went there for their Sunday brunch every week.
But, it turns out that The Spotted Dog is even better. It's got an English flavor. But more like a cozy, romantic restaurant than a pub.
The bar is friendly and alive. While the tables and the little party dining area in the back are elegant and candle lit.
The brunches are inexpensive but amazing. I love the fish tacos and the fried chicken sandwich is divine!
If you're a neighbor or a tourist, you can't go wrong in here!

Very good fish & chips & Irish coffee!!
Proprietor is a gentlemen, recommend highly.
Will be back to try the shepherd's pie.
