I have eaten Calf's Liver here twice and ordered it medium rare, they sent it out well done both times. I sent it back the second times it happened and had it redone. I have eaten MUCH better Calf's Liver elsewhere. My rating is based on the Calf's Liver only.

My wife and I went there for her birthday based on the reviews. I get that a restaurant, or a particular table, can have an off night, but we were very, very disappointed. Apart from the maitre d', who was helpful with the wine list, our service was sad. After the appetizers (which were good), we sat for fifty minutes (yes!) with no food before our server dropped by and tell us our meal had mistakenly been read as a take out order. She assured us "they are starting over: your meal will not be the one that's been sitting on the counter" (as if that would have even been a possibility in anyone's mind!)
When it came, it was no better than "okay." Maybe 2.5 stars. Then we splurged for dessert (it was my wife's birthday, which I had mentioned to the server and on the reservation with RESY), and we were delivered a blueberry tart that tasted like it had been made two days earlier, and sitting in the cooler. The pastry was like cardboard; the blueberries were tough. There was a demi-teaspoon full of whipped cream on top, max.
And after the fiasco about the main course, you would have thought they might have chosen to comp something -- but no, nothing.
We enjoy French restaurants, and have been to four others in the past year in our travels to NYC. This is the bottom of the barrel. We won't be back.

Excellent food and service. Split our appetizer salad into two portions before serving. We had the fluke (fish of the day)
Meunière and roast chicken on the bone — both outstanding, well-seasoned

I’ve just spent a couple of weeks in Italy in their infernal heat wave listening to paysani tell me that a/c is bad for you. Now that I’m back in the land of the sane and cool, the last thing I want to do is make the effort to look presentable, come over from the West Side and then sit next to a door that is constantly open to the tropical air outside. When I asked to move to a cooler spot I was shown an adjacent table. And then when I did, I was told that I should have alerted the staff that I was doing so. I used to like the restaurant when it was in its old location. The menu certainly looks the same but I don’t know how the food is because my family and I walked out. Funny how one doesn’t have to eat anything to be left with a bad taste. To be sure, the guy with the attitude may have just been having bad day. But that back wall is no place to sit if you’re expecting a comfortably cool dining experience.

Our favorite French restaurant in NYC. The food is incredible, the room is beautiful and charming, and the staff is wonderful. A true UES staple. Highly recommend!!

Update 6/22 I love this place: an attractive, welcoming room, not too loud, with a lovely vibe; well-prepared French bistro food with inventive weekly specials; professional and friendly service. As eating out gets more expensive, this neighborhood spot offers a dependably satisfying experience.
Holds up, a year plus in its attractive new neighborhood location. Delicious bistro food and friendly servers. Quietest early in the evening.

A neighborhood favorite french restaurant. Our favorites include calves liver, beef bouguinion, cold cut flank steak, and duck/white bean casserole.
Reservation is recommended.

Lovely, quaint, and family-owned classic French bistro on the Upper East Side. Our feast consisted of oysters and Pol Roger Brut NV Champagne to start along with sauteed chicken livers, mushrooms, and sage. The main courses were savory and followed by chocolate mousse and cappuccino. The service was impeccable and we felt at home. Merci!

New location on 81st. The escargot a la bougogne hit the spot. The cassoulet left me craving for more.
