I tried their Kaiseki menu and feels very traditional and may not be everyone’s taste but certainly different from the usual fare. Also tried some Nigiri and while ok not great. I really came here for the history being the very first sushi restaurant in NYC. Quite an accomplishment that they are still in business after all these years. Bravo!

This is probably as close as you can get to Japan during these covid days. Great food. Japanese atmosphere (including the elevator jazz soundtrack ????)

I adore Nippon. The food is divine and very authentic. It’s the kind of place where you can impress a date, have a business discussion, enjoy a solo meal, or get together with friends and family. You will be awash in the lovely design, the fantastic food, and the back and forth of spoken Japanese as waiters joke with cooks, customers and each other. It’s a truly delightful spot. Also, you can get the only fda approved fugu there if you’re feeling dangerous! The udon is incredible, the fried chicken delightful, the sake tastings wonderful and the sushi-utter perfection. I go whenever I can.

Real authentic Japanese food was extremely good and amazing service. Would definitely stop by here and come again. I came here during lunch time and it was a nice peaceful place to eat. I also needed help understanding a few things on the menu and the waiter did an amazing job explaining!

Love the service there. Food is nice and fresh. Too bad we did not try sushi which is said to be their top dish.

Ordered 8 courses set. Overall experience was negative at the restaurant. Not only the food was overpriced but also the service was unprofessional. Ankimo supposed to have silky/creamy taste but it was very fishy and the texture was loose. I tried a couple kaiseki style restaurants before, but the course at Nippon definitely tasted more like cold food straight out from the fridge. The duck breast, without the sauce, tasted “gamy”. I would not say it’s an authentic Edo-style restaurant. As for the service, the server didn’t wear the mask properly. When serving the course, the server put my tableware straight on the table. They talked loudly next to us when we had dinner. Don’t expect too high if you want to give it a try.

We had a wonderful time at what is billed as the oldest sushi bar in NYC. The food and service was excellent. It’s expensive and worth going only for an anniversary or birthday. Special place.

I had a 5-star experience with Nippon. Tried their seasonal Kaiseki menu. Everything tasted unbelievably delicious, beautiful presentation and service was exceptional, really made us feel special.

I really enjoyed dinner on Saturday! Their outdoor dining was very clean and comfortable. It was sanitized well, and the staffs also carefully took precautions against COVID-19.
I was so happy that I could have such beautiful and tasty Japanese dishes after this long quarantine.
Thank you. I’ll definitely come back.
