My trips to NYC are incomplete without a meal here. The cocktails and sake selection are fantastic; the food is always on point. I’ve probably tried every thing on the menu and enjoyed it all. I love the casual, easy vibe with - can come here on a date night or a night out with friends. Best of all is the service. The manager is most polite, everyone friendly, I would be a regular and this would surely be “my spot” if I lived in in NYC.

When I want to treat myself to a delicious sushi dinner Juban is my top choice. Sushi is fresh they have a wide selection of sake and shochu. Along with delicious cocktails and mocktails.
The entire team are super accommodating and go above and beyond with my food allergies.

Was asked by a friend to join him at Judon for dinner. This restaurant is known as Isakaya, meaning an informal bar serving small plates and drinks. There is a wide variety of offerings to suit all palates at very reasonable prices as you’ll see if you view the menu on their website. Between the two of us we had 16 dishes. Yum!! The waiter who served us introduced me to sake. I am forever thankful he took the time to explain the process, why some taste better than others etc. etc. I am now a devotee!
The whole staff was friendly and attentive. The walls are festooned with original art and artifacts. Very cozy and welcoming.
Long story short, I’ll be back!

What started as my favorite neighborhood sushi spot has become one of the best sushi spots to eat in NYC. The food is excellent, not just the sushi but a wide selection of authentic Japanese dishes as well. The sake selection and range is both interesting and delicious. Last, the environment is equal parts downtown cool and like a spot you’d find in Tokyo. I love this place.

This is the best cutest most intimate sweet best quality little Japanese bar and restaurant. The waiters remember you after one visit and are so kind and happy to make recommendations. The best neighborhood place in Chelsea. The neighborhood is indebted to this beautiful restaurant. I’ve been coming here for many years and it only gets better.

Delicious sushi, grilled food, sharing plates and sakes and Japanese drinks.

You are in for a treat. Coolest little quintessential local vibes.

quite literally the best sushi i've ever had. the fatty tuna (daily special) was incredible, & the "hot or not" shishito peppers were a super fun appetizer. our server was very friendly & helpful as well. definitely pricey, but worth the experience

i stumbled across this place during the snow storm and decided to give it a try. i ordered 2 of their special menu items (these change so they may not have it available when you visit): shiitake mushroom soup with truffle oil, and a fatty tuna (chutoro) hand roll. i also ordered their saikoro steak and for dessert their matcha ice cream with tempura banana.
shiitake mushroom soup: the broth had a light but very distinct, nuanced shiitake flavor. the truffle is also very present and complements the shiitake very well. it was perfect given the weather.
tuna hand roll: the fish was fresh and the roll was well crafted. i’m usually not the biggest hand roll fan but i did like this one.
saikoro steak: very light in flavor/seasoning with the emphasis on the beef flavor. the dish was served on a hot stone plate. the meat was cooked to perfection and the quality of the meat was decent. i prefer a little more seasoning or perhaps even experimentation with the different flavors. this dish to me felt a bit lackluster and oversimplified. it also comes with brussel sprouts which were not cooked all the way through.
tempura banana/matcha ice cream: the ice cream had a rich matcha flavor that was light and not overbearing. i wasn’t a huge fan of the tempura banana as i just felt the texture of the crunch and the mushiness of the banana wasn’t working for me.

as many have mentioned the vibe is super cool and service was outstanding. prices are a bit on the higher end. but if you’ve been following my reviews, these factors are not a factor in my rating.

the service here is impeccable - the employee was so attentive and conversational! the kobe beef was so tender and delicious - literally melted in my mouth oh wow. i loved the mentaiko mayo sauce that was tossed with the cauliflower! the mentaiko inaniwa udon was also great - the umami flavor was perfect! the octopus karaage had a bit of sake flavor which i was not expecting but it was a good surprise to have haha. my second favorite thing was the housemade hojicha ice cream that was served with fried banana - ive had the hojicha ice cream from haagen daz in japan and i thought that was amazing but this. oh man. it blew my mind - if they sold pints of this, i would buy all of them. thank you juban for such a great dining experience and for great customer service! i have my calendar marked to come back in a year

Neighborhood gem!

Excellent Japanese food, optimally eaten shared “family” or “tapas” style.

Sake was delicious and the service was EXCELLENT.

And the food itself? One hit after another!

My favorite was the Kimchi entree, but the Blue Crab Fried Rice was a close second. Even the desserts were great, with the black sesame mousse being a surprisingly savory and light, yet delicious choice.

So happy I finally came here and look forward to retuning soon!
