If the rating was based purely on the steak, it would be a 5 star without issue.
But for a steak house of this quality there were a few issues that bumped it down a star.
Had dinner there last night. Salads, file mignon, mac and cheese, cheesecake, the steak was excellent, I did order it black and blue, and it arrived rare, but still within reason.
Ordered the au poivre pepper sauce with it, that was a big no, way too salty, bitter, and just way too overwhelming, the steak was better off without it.
The rest of the meal, mac & cheese, Brussels sprouts were tasty, good portions, and very good.
The service was iffy, our waiter was very good, but it was clear he was way over extended, had too many tables to deal with, plus the usual "regulars" who demand more time and attention that he simply can't afford to give.
Case in point, when the cheesecake arrived we did not get forks, the coffee did not arrive with the desert either, we had to wait about 10 minutes before the waiter came over to tell us the coffee was coming shortly, we pointed out we needed forks as well.
When the forks arrived with the coffee, the coffee was lukewarm, and the attention we got in the beginning of the meal from the staff had disappeared.
Overall a good dining experience, with average at best service.
Charlie Palmer, you need a better manager, or hire more waiting staff.

Ate here last night. Very clean well appointed steak restaurant. Servers were attentive but not overbearing. The
Captain, Maitre d (I don't know know what they're called these days,) came by and checked to make sure everything was well and made some terrific suggestions. The food was delicious, even the butter served w the bread was amazing. Great experience overall. Service was exceptional

I came here before a show for dinner. I
walked away very impressed with the entire experience. The food was absolutely delicious and has a great variety of great steaks and non-steak options. More than the food, I found the staff to be extremely personable and attentive. The manager genuinely cared about our experience and was very friendly and caring. I'll definitely be coming back.

This restaurant was excellent. We had dinner as a group of 7 business colleagues in town for a conference. It was the perfect Times Square/Midtown accessible location.

Located in the theatre district, there’s so much culture to see on your way in and out the doors.

The restaurant was clean, service was great, and food was incredible. The staff was so professional. Specialty drinks and wine were all superb.

Seafood tower and tartare with egg were lovely sharable starters.

Steaks and steak salads were perfect. Lobster was sweet, tender, & fresh.

Lobster mac & cheese & Brussel sprouts sides were both decadent!

Cheesecake and crème brûlée for dessert were rich, easy to share, & satisfying. We had so much food leftover!

Would highly recommend, especially for large groups.

Amazing steak and appetizers! very friendly and attentive staff. I recommend eating at around 7 and make sure to try the béarnaise sauce. Two of our two desserts that we ordered were on the house because of the friendly wait staff and they made sure to fill our water up whenever we were empty. although a little pricey it was definitely worth the price and the experience was a 10/10.

Came here for dinner because I previously went to the location in DC and it was top notch. Here in NYC not so much. I got the porterhouse for 2, gratin, & creamed spinach. The steak came out room temperature while the sides were piping hot. Highly disappointed for a steakhouse. Even more disappointed with the service. The waiter offered to take it back to make it hot (kind of bizarre for an upscale restaurant) and did not even apologize. Manager did not touch the table to apologize either. Certainly not worth the price if they can't get the steak right. Will not be going back or recommending this place at all.

Nice vibe. Great steaks and a very unconventional charred romaine Cesar's salad which is a must-try!
Everything is on point really, except for the coffee which sucks. Like, it's worst than McCafè, but besides that everything was on point.

Charlie Palmer Steak NYC is a great place to get a romantic meal before a theater show. The restaurant is trendy and beautiful inside, the service is excellent, and the food was very good. There are Fixe Prix menus available that are very affordable. For $50, you can get a two item meal including appetizer and entree (dessert is extra). The husband tried the fresh oysters and Lobster Pasta while I tried the Kales and Brussel Sprout salad. It was a delicious and relaxing meal and was a pleasant place for a quiet date.

Two stars for decent steak and a candle. We came from DC to celebrate our daughter’s first birthday. We reserved a table to end the day on 11/30/2021 at 7:15pm. When we arrived, we were sat at a table right next to the door so we felt the cold air every time someone else arrived. A waiter quickly came over and filled our glasses with ice cold water. Then, our actual waiter came and asked what we wanted to drink. I said sparkling water and my partner ordered a drink from the bar. Before walking away, the waiter quickly picked up and took our just poured water glasses. We asked him why he took them and he said because I ordered sparkling water… we were so confused but he brought the flat water glasses back and some cold loaf of sourdough bread. We sat at this table for over an hour without anyone checking up on us or asking if we needed more drinks or even placing our order! We should have left at this point but it was 8:15, and we’re here with our 1 year old child. Thankfully, the ribeye steak for 2 was very tasty and so were the mashed potatoes. The fries however, were overly seasoned and extremely salty. For dessert, we brought a small cupcake so we could sing happy birthday for our baby. We asked for a candle so a waiter brought one, light it, stuck it in the cupcake and walked away. Nobody acknowledged the birthday, sang with us or even gave us a sticky note that said “thanks for celebrating with us”. NOTHING. As if that wasn’t enough, we packed up to leave and needed to change our baby’s diaper. None of the restrooms have a changing table. So this place just doesn’t accommodate kids or anybody celebrating their birthday there. Like I said, the steak was good, but this is a steakhouse so they’re doing the bare minimum right?

Very good service. Quickly but elegantly for pre theater. Food and drinks were tasty and well prepared. Good portion size too. Bathrooms very clean and private.
