Wonderful homey atmosphere! They do homemade poptarts, we got peach, amazing biscuits, and they always have crazy specials. I got the duck-bacon sausage with deep fried poached eggs. Like how do you even?!?!

The best pancake ever!
Just be careful if you are planning to walk to there. The downtown is a bit rough. But it was really the best pancake i ever had in my entire life! ❣️

We're staying in downtown LA for a couple of days and read some reviews on the Nickel Diner. Everything about it appealed to us so we felt we had to give it a go!

Its by no means a polished, glitzy, pretentious eatery. But the staff are attentive, friendly and helpful. The diner itself is clean, full of character and decorations. And the food is superb and the service exceptional.

I had the Nickel Diner Chilaquiles (without the chicharrones as I'm a veggie), my wife had the blueberry pancakes and our son had the bacon donut. We also had a complimentary biscuit with home made jam.

Everything was delicious.

Definitely recommended for a hearty breakfast to start your day

Great hash. Sweet spicy way to start a Saturday . I love that the servers come to your table with freshly made donuts that they made. REALLY?

Took my mom for breakfast because she was in town and leaving right afterwards.
It needed to be somewhere close and not packed as a lot of places get busy on Sunday for breakfast.

It’s been years since I’ve visited this place and what can I say…it’s was such a good experience!!
We parked on Los Angeles since we couldn’t find street parking on main..walked just a block to get here and were seated immediately! The staff was attentive, friendly..they checked in very often but not intrusive!
Right after we sat down we ordered some home made pop tarts and they were buttery, sweet, flaky crust paired with coffee very well.
The music is what we would listen to and had us in a good mood…I seen the owner again what a hard working woman and so cool!

For starters
My niece got a pancake and apple juice!
My mom and I chose from the weekend specials menu…we got the chilaquiles over black beans with two poached eggs topped with cheese and crema and the breakfast burrito with salsa verde poured over it!
The chilaquiles were amazing..sauce was spicy and I can handle spice but it was flavorful not overwhelmingly spicy just right. The tortillas were fried perfectly still a bit crunchy even with the sauce on there and the black beans below! The eggs still runny, over all my favorite.

The burrito was filled with an egg scramble with mushrooms and cheese, sausage and potatoes. It was good as well!

Had a great meal…and time! Be back next time.

The wait staff was great. Food was good, but I felt the corned beef I got was lacking a bit. Hard to say exactly what. Maybe both sides should have been grilled. The eggs were also a little over. The biscuit was great. Be sure to ask for jelly if they didn't bring any.

It’s been about five years since I’ve eaten here and I’m so glad it hasn’t closed. The food continues to be delicious and well priced despite inflation.

I got the 10¢bag and it was really yummy. The specials offered were yummy and the desserts too!

Sad they did not have their red velvet cake. It used to be legendary!

All I can say is FOOD IS AMAZING. I would eat there every Sunday if I wasn't so concerned about my summer body. Chilaquiles, Fivecent Bag, burrito and pancakes are my go to. I sometimes order and just pick it up when I have company. Plus EVERYONE is so nice. I mean EVERYONE.

Had a lovely experience at Nickel Diner. I ordered the chilaquiles plate with eggs over easy. Their tomatillo sauce was delicious, I wish the dish came with more than a thin layer of black beans and less of a mountain of tortillas. Tasted wonderful though and the staff was kind as well. Order a side of the potatoes, they are well seasoned and delicious!

This place is definitely a throwback (even the customer service). Oldies playing, old school retro feel, with hardy comfort breakfast choices. Best breakfast I have ever had in Downtown LA. They have homemade pop tarts as a special!
