Excellent traditional Hidalgo style lamb, hand made tortillas are a must try, wait staff is really friendly and provide excellent service. The establishment is well kept if you live or are just visiting it’s definitely a nice hidden gem in the Houston area

Work on getting orders out correctly. They brought out the wrong soup, two ppl didn't get their tortillas w their meal, no silverware, needed cilantro and onions for barbacoa...

The best Birria I've ever had!! The lamb in the consome was an excellent surprise, I will 100% come back and bring my friends back to this restaurant!

Really good food and great service. The place is moving to a new location because the current one looked a little outdated but the barbacoa plate was to die for and the portions were Texas size. I do have to make it clear that the place serves lamb and goat. For dessert the rice pudding is a sweet treat you must try.

Very disappointed with the visit, we ordered a fajita plate for 2 to go. We got home, and this is what we found. We think this was overpriced.

I went to this place for the famous barbacoa de Borrego/lamb. Barbacoa in Texas is usually made from beef. So this is not easy to find. I thought it would be too gamey but it wasn't bad. It was a little dry but with homemade tortillas and a spicy red salsa made it a lot better.I also ordered the Huasteca plate, which i have never heard of before and wanted to try something different. The Huasteca is a plate that consists of scrambled egg enchiladas in Huasteca suace. (still bot sure what that means). It also includes a cecina steak which like a thin milaesa steak. The cecina steak and beans were very flavorful but the Huasteca enchiladas werent what I expected. Not bad but not great. There are other things on the menu like cabrito/goat that are also not very common and is authentic Mexican food. If you are interested in trying the barabacoa or birria then give El Hidalguense a try.

On this visit, the barbacoa was not as good as it used to be, kind of flavorless and even when I ordered lean, there were a lot of pulverized bones that made the meat to be difficult and unpleasant to eat, also the consomė was absolutely tasteless.

The service is outstanding and the place is clean, everyone wears masks, these last make a 10.

Final result

Food 5
Service 10

Place is ok, parking setup sucks, food’s great tho. Authentic birria with “consome” goes hard. Wether you’re into the birria tacos or quesadillas, you’re in for a treat.

After I gave them 5 stars now I will change it to one star, after our visit for this restaurant today
The most important part of the restaurants it the cleanliness.
But today once we got there the table was dirty we asked the host or waiter to clean it and he got mad, he put the menu at the dirty table so aggressively by hitting his palm on the top of the menu, and we decided to change the table to not make him work for cleaning, but most of the available tables were dirty as well. Then we decided to set after they cleaned the table but still dirty. we ordered some water and Horchata the water was having something floating inside, and the Horchata I opened the led to check it if it’s clean or not I found a hair sticking in the cup led from inside. I asked the waiter to take it back. Then we got some serving plates and it was super dirty,I asked them to change it. We ordered but we couldn’t trust the food because everything was dirty we lost our appetite we wested our money and left.
Never coming back there because today experience was very traumatizing the restaurant missing the basic standards of cleanliness.

This place is horrible!
The food is flavorless and expensive. The owner says the price matches the quality but I didn't see that.
Barbacoa was drenched in grease and filled with fat we all felt sick. The place was packed and the Menudo had no flavour.
The consume tasted like water and grease. For $219 dollars we expected a nice filling flavourful meal but we got the opposite instead.
We had to purchase pizza because of how small portions are! How ridiculous! Price did not match quality nor portions. ALL of the tables were full and not one table was separated. A waitress even dropped her tray filled with food because of how packed it was.
Our waitress grabbed her own $30 tip which we really disliked. We all wanted to put in our own amount of tip for her but no. We hated our experience and it was a complete waste of money. I feel ripped off and im so upset that I could of wasted those $219 at a place where they actually served quality food.

Parking for this location is a little hard, we had to park in a lot next to the shopping center. If you’re looking for some good authentic Mexican food look no further. When you get there you find a table there’s no host or anything. Some one will bring out some taquitos out as an appetizer instead of chips which are great. I had chilaquiles en salsa verde they have some in salsa roja too but the salsa verde ones are better. They have breakfast tacos which are to die for as well. Don’t get me started with the micheladas. They were so good! I hate Clamato and if the put Clamato in their micheladas I couldn’t even taste it. If you’re around this are you must go try this place out!!

Hubby had the Cabrito (leg part)and he loved it. I had the Red Mole, flavor was good but I prefer white meat. Corn tortillas were excellent, they are a little thick due to they are handmade. When we first arrived they brought us complimentary red hot sauce n 2 flautas, which were excellent. My husband did not like the rice. Almost forgot, we had Queso Fundido or melted white cheese w/chorizo along w/the handmade corn tortillas, very good as well.
They had 2 ladies doing karaoke and request were being taken or you could hop up on the stage and join as well (they did mention but no one did while we were there). The only down fall is the parking, not much room to park and Longpoint was under construction when we went. We will go back but my husband will get the rib section of the Cabrito next time
