Omgggggg!! It is about time the lower East side gets a Puerto Rican restaurant that is five star I just tried the mofongo with the beef steak and the potato salad!! Que Riiiiiiicooooo! Those are my thoughts . I ordered through Uber eats everything was perfect! the meat was tender the mofongo is nice and garlicky they got the gravy on the side that goes on it.. I am in love with the potato salad it's just like homemade right from abuelitas Cocina.. covered in chilled in the fridge! I cannot wait to try more of their food thank you for representing boricua so great! Que Chévere!

So glad I ventured downstairs of the Essex Market tucked away in the back right corner. It was a sleepy Sunday morning but this place had quite a few fellow curious onlookers and regulars lined up. Looks family owned and the food is cooked with love. Pastelillos are 3.50 with a good amount of filling, liked the beef better than chicken, which I found a little dry. San Juan bowl is $18, my fault that I didn’t read the tiny print: rice and beans are NOT included. Just chicken breast, 3 tostones and small scoop of cabbage salad. A very good alternative if you’re calorie or carb conscious, but maybe disappointing if you’re not lol. I usually prefer dark meat, but the breast was surprisingly juicy and tender, actually tasted good 2 days later. Only complaint is food came to $29 with tip, not necessarily an everyday place for me but would visit again if nearby.

Que Chevere is such a great find within Essex Market (located downstairs in the Market Line) and all their food is truly made with LOVE FROM PUERTO RICO. They offer such delicious and authentic Puerto Rican food - I absolutely loved the shrimp mofongo, the shrimp was sooo good and cooked perfectly, it had a ton of flavor. You must try their amazing empanadas - I tried a beef one and it was great, also loved the salsas it came with.

This place’s food always tastes fresh, moist, tasty, authentic, and DELICIOUS!! It’s not easy to find home-cooked-tasting ethnic foods, but QUE CHEVERE gets me every time. My go-to is the classic Chevere Bowl… I just love it. I’ve also had the shrimp with arroz con gandules, and it was also delicious! I keep recommending this place when you want real Puerto Rican food!!

Good amount of wings for two people, 6 for $10, cut up into individual pieces. If there’s not enough flavor for you use the sauces they include with your order.

The first, simply delicious!!!! DELICIOSO!!! Caramba… Que Chevere is the place that takes you to your Moms kitchen. The rice was just the way my Aunty raised feeding me. The roasted pork “Pernil” was cooked perfectly I must admit again. The sweet plantains the shrimp and the potato salad was the way my mom did it for me during the holiday seasons year after year. Thank you for your hospitality and continued successes in the future. Whomever is reading this will truly be happy with this choice for a quick, filling trip to mommas Puerto Rican kitchen en casa! @ home…. Thank you for the hospitality, you have an amazing concept and your successes are deserving. Gracias Hermano!

QUE CHEVERE IS A SOLID 5⭐️. You will not be disappointed.

Alcapurria was very salty and not even hot. Chicken pastelillo filling was dry and lukewarm. Arroz con gandules tasted of nothing but culantro (recao). Needed more gandules. Had a lot of green onion in it. No real underlying sofrito or salted pork flavor. None of this tasted like on the Island. Threw most of it away. Quite disappointed. Not worth the close to $20 tab. Will stick to getting this type of food in Puerto Rico or making myself.

I can’t speak to anything but their Alcapurrias (my friend had the mofongo chicken plate and liked it despite the mofongo looking a bit dry). I liked it + it’s reasonably priced. The rest of the non snack foods are a lil expensive for food stall places like this but hey if they can get away with it let them lol. The dipping sauce that came with it was great/flavorful.
