Katzs Delicatessen Reviews

Wasn’t sure about coming here but it really was worth it. I travel a lot for work and hate feeling like a tourist but they were great. You get a ticket, you line up for a cutting station, sit down and eat and then pay with the ticket after. I had the pastrami on rye and the meat was truly the most succulent and delicious I’ve had. The rye was soft, the mustard flavourful and perfectly-balanced, it came with a plate of pickles and cucumbers. The cutter let me try some brisket just to compare - also fantastic. But the pastrami is the one to go for. It wasn’t dry at all and I would have the same again.

As a tourist it was a must see and it lived up to expectations. It can take a little but to get served, but I timed it right and was able to walk right in. The ordering process is a little different at first but the team are helpful and very patient with tourists and in hindsight it does make sense and there are clear signs up.
The pastrami sandwich was amazing, some of the best of any meat I've had, a lovely smoky flavour and so juicy and tender. Souvenirs were very reasonably priced as well. Forget any other reason to cone here - do it for the fantastic food!

As a first timer to NYC, this is one of the must go places in my list. Katz's Deli has been around for over 100 years, serving the same delicious Jewish delis.
I ordered half a portion of the famous pastrami sandwich on rye and a bowl of Matzo ball and it was actually good enough to share among 2 people just to have a taste of it (I'm from Asia where I'm used to smaller food portions).
The pastrami was very good! Tender and flavourful, and you get to have a taste of it when the cutter is preparing your order, it's part of the experience.
The matzo ball was pretty good too, love the clear soup and the soft texture of the matzo ball. Great to warm up my stomach in the morning.

Visited on a Tuesday just before lunch, and what a pleasant surprise to find no queue and many empty seats. It was definitely nice to eat in a less crowded and noisy environment.

The cutter is friendly and nice and they will provide two beef pastrami for tasting, though you be ordering it anyway since it is their signature. The pastrami on rye tasted good, smokey though quite salty. The gherkins were nice too, particularly the more greenish one.

Menu is very extensive but definitely not cheap. Someone try to order a sandwich to go, then realize like it was $16 and decided not to buy, and the staff was nice to allow cancellation.

Definitely worth checking out at least once just to tick off one of the 'must try' NYC institution.

If you are in NY this is a must. The place looks like you were back in time, very authentic. The sandwiches were incredible. The meat, the taste, the mostaza. Even the hot dogs were really really good. The portions are huge (at least for us). Prices are really good to be in NY, every person get a little paper that is going to include all that you have eat and you need to give it to the guard when you are coming out. So be sure that you don’t lose it, otherwise they are not going to let you out.

This place lives up to the hype... Tried the pastrami sandwich and it was simply amazing. The meat is smoked to perfection, served in the right meat - bread - mustard ratio, and
makes you want to eat it even though you're stuffed already!
Great place, must visit when in NYC

There are very few places that live up to the "hype" and this is one of then. I was pleasantly surprised but it could be because my expectations were low. The sandwich was good! Pastrami was not too salty. The mustard, the pickles, the bread. Perfect! I would recommend this place to all if you're ever in the city.

Not the easiest place to find with Google search. Asked the subway worker and he directed straight there. I’ve seen this place on food network several times and had to try it. It was extremely busy when we walked in. I guess there was a line but since no one was paying attention the guy said come in. It was a little overwhelming so many people were there and I had no idea what to do. I guess you have the option of ordering at the counter and if you want a table in the front you just wait and find one. I suggest having someone save your seat and the other ordering if you want to go that route. If you want to be waited on you walk to the back and there is a hostess there where you stand in line and they will help seat you and you can have a waiter. The wait took maybe 20-30 min not to bad, but the place was crowded and the one for the employees is right by the line so they need room to go back and forth. When we were seated the waiter gives you a ticket and that’s what you use to pay with. We ordered the Pastrami, Corned Beef and Bagel, Lox && Cream Cheese with NY cheesecake! It was delicious. Some say it maybe overrated for the price and I can see a little of that but the sandwiches are big and the place is super cute! Make sure after you pay you hold on to your receipt because you’ll need it to get out the doors. I’ll definitely visit this place again.

This place is incredibly busy even an hour before lunchtime!! The pastrami is really fatty (so it’s really yummy but also - watch out!) - make sure you get it with the mustard.

Hot dogs were also great!

There’s a secret room if you walk to the back of the shop which has even more space ????

I went there by Wednesday evening around 7:30. They give you a small card at the entrance which is important to keep that because you will pay when you want to go out at the end. I stand in the line for 15 minutes. I ordered a Pastrami. The meal is completely enough for two. The ingredient is bread with mustards and beef brisket. They give you famous pickles in a separate plate. The Pastrami is super delicious, fresh and juicy. However, it's a little salty for me (but it's the real taste of food and it's not annoying). The price for one Pastrami with all tip and taxes is $31.

This is the best sandwich spot in new york hands down. The line is quite long but well worth it, and the pickles are amazing. I have never had a mote amazing pastrami sandwich than this spot here no wonder it's been in business since it opened in 1888. Highly recommend it ,also I recommend checking the famous wall with all the celebrities and presidents on it

I'm trying to be very honest in that review.
We came at around 3:30PM, the Line was very long, we've waited around 30 minutes.
We took 2 kinds of sandwiches, the pastrami, which the meat itself was amazing, and the corned beef which was very dry to my taste.
The sandwiches themselves are also pretty dry, don't get me wrong, they put *tons* of meat inside, but what does it worth without vegetables and more that a light spread of mustard.. and the bread just isn't good enough for me.
It was nice to see such a place, but I can't see myself eating there again.

Just the best pastrami I’ve ever had in my life. It’s so good that it puts all other pastrami I’ve ever had to shame. The line was almost around the block but we were in and seated within 15 min- a true testament to just how efficient these guys and gals are. Both the Reuben and classic pastrami on rye were fantastic. Their house mustard and pickles are addictive. Washed it all down with a great matzo ball soup. If not for an assuredly early death due to a massive MI, I would eat here every day.

What can I I say. This was my first visit to this legendary place, but I sure hope it’s not my last. we really did not know what to order so we both got a soup and sandwich and then split them. The matzoh ball soup was absolutely amazing, it was the first time I’ve ever had something like that but man I hope it’s not the last. It was just the perfect flavor, salty just so amazing. The split pea was nothing short of awesome also, both of them just turned out pretty good. The sandwiches that we went for were the pastrami Reuben, which absolutely did not disappoint so full of flavor the tanginess from the sauerkraut really set it off. And then we also split the brisket sandwich, when we added the mustard to it that thing was on fire! Something that was really cool were the pickles that they dropped off at the beginning, they were sour as could be. The service was interesting to say the least, a little crass but you know what that’s OK it’s what they do there and I’m fine with that. You come in you sit down you shut up you eat your lunch and you go home, maybe we should have more of that who knows? If you want The real New York deli experience then this is where you need to go.

The pastrami is well worth the hype. The interior has an old school diner vibe. I also liked how you get pickles and they also freshly cut the meats and will give you a taste when cutting.

Ordered a half sandwich with a side salad and was stuffed! The sandwiches are huge.

This place is crazy (in a unique good way). It’s loud and apparently always crowded. While you‘re watching your sandwich getting freshly made you get a little appetizer. This place is for meat eaters. I would recommend a half sandwich first (a complete is just to mighty). If you’re not able to finish (no shame a lot of people don‘t do so), they easily wrap it up for you.
The sandwiches itself are really delicious. I had the pastrami sandwich and was like falling in love with it.

A MUST GO PLACE IN NYC. I recommend you to go there during the week because of the long line but moves fast.
Be patient and wait, it’s worth it.
It’s a whole experience with good foods.
You are given a pick ticket upon entree. Don’t lose it. You go into line along with other to the counter and order what you want. They mark the price for the food you ordered. In the end you pay base on your ticket. Drinks are another slot between the cashier and the meat counter.

We ordered 2 pastrami on rye with some fries. The pickles were awesome, the sandwich was very good.

We got the tickets for each person who entered for ordering meals. There’s long line of customers and our line certainly not moving for more than 30 minutes, plus the customers in front us seemed continuously ordered stacks and stacks of sandwiches. And we finally get rescued when one of the staff reminded about their waited service, all you have to do was walk to the back of the restaurant and they’re servers waiting for you, it was that’s the best decision!

We ordered the famous pastrami sandwich, matzo ball soup and frankfurter, the NY best natural casing all beef dog. All are deliciously juicy and perfect! Their cucumber pickles are very crunchy and refreshing.

The restrooms checked was good, although it’s hidden (read the signage on the back), some water splashed on the floor, just have to be careful with your steps around.

It was a great experience to be in one of legendary list of restaurants with 132 years of life history!

Amazing, just amazing, just don't lose the ticket. Great portions (close to half a pound of pastrami per serving), great service (friendly staff offer free pastrami samples), large number of options to choose from (including desserts), ample seating, restroom and option for self or table service, bit pricey but definitely worth it. It is a high sodium meal.

Ensure that you don't lose the ticket which they give you as you enter as losing it entails a $50 fine per lost ticket. They write what you got on the ticket.

We got the Reuben, pastrami and frankfurter (all three phenomenal). The pastrami sandwich is likely one of the best things I have ever eaten. It was juicy, melt in your mouth with great flavor throughout. The pickles and cucumber they give on the side also help cut the richness and refresh your palate to enjoy it more. The rye bread was also amazing.

Managed to stop here just prior to a flight leaving New York. I knew what a legend this place was and had been wanting to try it for a while. Arrived before noon so the line wasn’t to bad and it moved quickly. I like that the cutters offer you a sample of the pastrami. I had never had pastrami before that hadn’t come from a grocery store. The meat was tender, juicy and extremely flavorful. The pickles were perfect too! Absolutely loved it here!
