Donohues Steak House Reviews

Ownership or management must've changed hands. It used to be a great place to eat with good food and big portions. Now the portions are ridiculously small and the food was mediocre at best.
Prices are too high for miniscule portions that are barely even appetizing.
Very very disappointing.

I enjoyed sitting in this circa 1950’s restaurant in a booth with COVID barriers. Don’t expect Gourmet but down to earth with a Old NYC feeling which was relaxing. Sharon was my server who was terrific and caring. I needed a simple and healthy meal and the broiled scrod was fresh and cooked perfectly and seasoned lightly! The 2 sides included broccoli and a baked potatoes or you can have a salad. Everything was cooked just right and not loaded with oil, sauces, etc. I needed a simple, tasty, clean and basic meal and that’s what I got! The food is American style which was a nice change for me!

I didn’t like their London broil because it was smothered in a mushroom sauce. The sauce tasted delicious, the steak was good, but I just had a different image.

I should’ve read the menu.

I am not an expert, but I ordered a Maker’s Mark Manhattan and . . . YUM!

Atmosphere was old school, service was great and friendly, food was umm… not to good.
If you want a dusty, red leather booth vibe full of baby boomers this spot is for you.

This place is amazing. It's a classic Irish restaurant with a great mid-century look. The food is very good, with huge portions (go for the pork chop). Drinks are very reasonable and huge (go for the Manhattan). Only negative is the lack of beer on tap.

Wow.
What can I say about this place.
From 1984 to 1988 late nights after long hours of work?
I needed an escape, a good meal, and a drink.
Oh and late night showing of Star Trek.
I would bring my wife at the time here for dinner?
Hamburgers and Pork Chop, Lamb Chop dinners were great.
I served as a Training NCO/Supply Sergeant at the 107th up the street.

Just tried this place for first time. Hamburgers are really good. I don't like mine too thick so you can't eat them. these are prepared just right and cooked as requested, medium rare. Fries are really good. Service is very friendly.

No frills, old school steakhouse. Probably the most reasonably priced steak in NYC, and is it good? Yes, it is!
Also they have lamb loin chops which is a rather rare item on menus, so if you're a fan you can get it here.

Fabulous place to have a great time and enjoy the food, not just the steaks but also the soups, 5 stars to the service

What a great experience. After walking by and researching the place, finally went for my birthday with family. I was pleasantly treated to quality food, efficient wait staff and an ambiance long forgotten in today's NY. I can't wait to go back here to explore the rest of the menu. Thanks for keeping it old school, Donohue's!
