Classy meets Steakhouse meets cocktail bar.

Reservations highly recommended, I'd say a must* if you're in the Chicago area. Be sure to have a reservation, you gotta try the cocktails here.

A great Date night spot, romantic and dimly lit Id say it's great for groups too. The crowd here has good energy and so does the staff.

Portions are huge and oh so worth it. Meats are cooked to perfection, some of the best cuts I've had. You cannot skip the thick cut bacon.

This was truly a wonderful experience. 5 star restaurant through and through. Delicious food, tasty drinks, and excellent selections. Highly recommended giving Bavette’s a chance. Everything was delightful. Meredith was a lovely waitress, very accommodating and attentive.

We had such an awesome time last night. Rubin took excellent care of us at the bar. The drinks were amazing and the food was excellent. We enjoyed it so much we came back later that night and Delaney took care of us with after dinner drinks. If you are thinking of going, just go. You won’t regret it!!!

My husband and I enjoyed a meal here on our recent trip to Chicago - it was the highlight of our trip and one of the best dinning experiences we've enjoyed to date.

Reservations are a must - we managed to get a 10pm reservation on a Thursday night and couldn't believe how busy they were - we wouldn't have gotten a table without a reservation so plan ahead.

The service was amazing - everyone was friendly and professional - top notch.

The atmosphere was dark and intimate with great decor and music - it feels very special.

The food was outstanding - some of the best we've ever eaten - the only downfall was we were too full to finish everything.

We started with cocktails and scotch from the bar. My martini was perfect and my husband said their scotch selection was great. Then after we were at our table we enjoyed some of the house sourdough - it had a perfect crust, was light and airy in the middle and had a great sourdough tang. For appetizers we tried the shrimp scampi (delicious - perfect blend of butter, garlic and spice) and the goat cheese (also delicious).

For entrees I had the petite filet and my husband had the Chicago cut ribeye - both were cooked perfectly and so tender and flavorful. On the side we had the mashed potatoes and asparagus - also spectacular.

To end the meal - you can't go wrong with their chocolate pie - rich and decadent without being overly sweet - it was the perfect end to our meal.

Our food and dinning experience were top notch - we will definitely be coming back next time we're in Chicago. The meal is a bit of a splurge but so worth it.

Awesome spot for a celebratory dinner, one of the best meals I’ve had in Chicago. Porterhouse steak was huge but actually preferred the tenderness of the ribeye and how it melted in the mouth. Sides were all very rich, but perhaps too creamy in aggregate when all paired together; we got the creamed spinach, elote corn, and Mac and cheese. Favorite thing might have been the fried chicken. Incredibly moist and crispy with wonderful flavor.

We sat in the downstairs parlor which was a bit more intimate and quieter than them main dining room, but the experience is about the same.

The best dining experience I had in Chicago hands down. Also top 2 steaks I’ve ever had in my life. Service was beyond fantastic. Each course seemed to somehow top the last. Can’t think of one drawback from my dinner at Bavette’s and would highly recommend anybody visiting Chicago to make a reservation to experience one of the city’s best steakhouses.

Overall: Top notch dining in downtown Chicago.

The good: The food, ambience, and service were all top-notch and exceeded my high expectations. The fried chicken, which would seem silly to get at a place like this, was phenomenal. Lightly-breaded with a nice little kick to it, while tender and juicy on the inside. The mashed potatoes were thick and hearty, and the brown gravy was a great touch to bring all the flavors together. For my second visit, the burger is equally phenomenal. Quality patties, generous amounts of cheese, and the incredible (Publican?) bacon. Not too greasy, and the fries are crispy and flavorful as well. Don't eat all of the large portioned dinner, because the chocolate pie dessert was heavenly. Rich, dense, and decadent, it is arguably the highlight of the meal. Staff was friendly and the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. Oh, and the complimentary bread was amazing!

The not so good: Reservations/open tables are hard to get a hold of, but luckily I was able to sit at the bar both times without having to wait. Prices are a bit high, but that was expected. Probably a little loud for some (didn't both me).

Food/drink: 10/10
Atmosphere: 10/10
Service: 10/10

I used to live around the block from Bevette's and it was a favorite. Moved away from Chicago and got to visit this last weekend and the meal was incredible.6 years later, the quality is still there. The bread is some of the best in town, the blue crab cake is mouth watering and you cannot go wrong with a steak here! Highly recommend. It is always busy so a reservation is super helpful.

Best steak I have ever had! I got the Chicago cut cooked medium. Everything we got was amazing, sizzling shrimp scampi was so good as was the bread! Definitely recommend going here if you are anywhere in Chicago. Easily one of my favorite restaurants, great environment and amazing food, also spectacular service!!!

Potentially the best old-school steakhouse in Chicago. Has the look and feel of a restaurant straight out of the 1920’s, with huge high-quality steaks - I got the 16 oz. ribeye pictured here, but you really can’t go wrong with any of them. Salads and sides were delicious and hearty. The wedge salad, garlic creamy mashed potatoes, and Brussels sprouts were all highlights. Excellent, attentive, and knowledgeable service makes Bavette’s the full package.

If you love steakhouses and you’re in the mood for an intimate, dimly lit dinner on a date or with family and friends, this place is a must.

Note: there are also a lot of appealing seafood options here, but we didn’t try any of them (this time!).

A decent dining experience with top notch service!

We skipped the appetizer and ordered dry aged NY strip and rib-eye (Chicago cut), with bone marrow enhancement. Both steaks came out very salty, especially the Ribeye. I don't think this is what they're supposed to taste like so we asked our server whether it's over seasoned. Surprisingly she kindly offered to recook the steaks. The second plates come out barely seasoned - we think it's an "overcorrection" and obviously the kitchen needs a more consistent standard in terms of seasoning. On the plus side, the temperature is perfect, meat is fresh and of high quality. I recommend going with the dry aged option if this is your first time dining here.

Roasted bone marrow is also delicious and the jam + onion pairing enhance its flavor and reduce the greasiness.

Lastly, highly recommend making a reservation! We were able to lock a reservation at 3:45pm on Friday and the restaurant is packed by the time we got there. You may expect to wait for 1hr+ without a reservation. Also they have a 4% surcharge to the bill if you dine in.

Our friends were moving out of Chicago and we had a birthday dinner to celebrate before they left. This is by far one of my favorite steakhouses in Chicago. It is so classy and literally feels like you time travel to another moment in time as you enter the dining area. We order oysters and they were so fresh. The crab legs were unreal and really topped off the entire meal. Amazing date spot or fun to splurge with good company.
